Mandarin Garnet belongs to the garnet family and is an orange-colored variety of it, drawing its name from its color. Another name is spessartine, which is derived from the location where it was discovered. Traces of manganese give the stone its color.

The first discovery of Mandarin Garnets was 20 years ago along the Kunene River.
